The Inside Veer -Fernley traffic has always defied its size
Fernley’s school zone traffic is getting extra attention from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office. Congestion, red-light runners, and slow-moving vehicles during drop-off and pick-up have made areas like Hardie Lane and Cottonwood Elementary tricky to navigate. Officials say issuing citations isn’t always the answer and are exploring solutions like rerouting traffic or adjusting pickup locations. As Chief Deputy Mitch Brantingham noted, sometimes the fix isn’t a ticket—it’s a rethink.

Fernley City Council to hold public hearings on development, zoning changes
The Fernley City Council will hold three public hearings next week following first readings of proposed ordinances on Oct. 1. One hearing will cover changes to the 161-acre Red Hawk Ranch Development Agreement, including extending subdivision map expirations, adding all property owners, and relocating the community park. Two additional hearings will address zoning changes — one proposal to rezone 25 acres near Farm District Road from rural residential to single-family (SF6), and another to rezone the city’s planned 23-acre fishing pond park at 2305 Farm District Road from residential to Open Space and Parks (OSP).

Vaqueros charge into showdown with Fallon
The Fernley Vaqueros are gearing up for what could be the biggest game of the season, hosting Fallon Friday night with a chance to tie for first place in the Northern 3A. Fernley enters the game 4-1 in league play and 6-1 overall, tied for second with Elko, while Fallon leads the league at 5-0. A Truckee win over Elko during Fernley’s bye week kept the Vaqueros in the hunt for the No. 1 seed. A win over Fallon, followed by victories against Lowry and Dayton, could secure the top seed if Fallon beats Elko next week. Even a loss to Fallon could still allow Fernley to earn a home playoff game depending on remaining results.
