Updated: Hunewill defeats McNeil, Lacy leads Whalen with few ballots still outstanding

The Lyon County Clerk-Treasurer’s office has clarified that the first batch of results released this evening include all of Fernley’s election day ballots, but do not include early voting totals from one machine.
The Clerk-Treasurers office said 552 early voting ballots from two machines, one from Fernley and one from Yerington, remain uncounted because of a malfunction.
With only those votes from the Fernley machine still outstanding, Ray Lacy has the lead for the Fernley City Council seat with 640 votes, while incumbent councilwoman Shari Whalen has received 515 votes.
In the race for Lyon County Sheriff, Frank Hunewill appears to have defeated incumbent sheriff Al McNeil, with 9,862 votes for Hunewill and 9,006 for McNeil.
Meanwhile, Matt Johnson, with 3,002 votes and Terrin Hicks, with 2,442, lead the race for two seats on the North Lyon County Fire Protection District Board of Directors. Chris Murphy is third with 1,973 votes and Sue Seidl is fourth with 1,909.
The City of Fernley’s advisory question for a 5-cent diesel fuel tax increase to be requested from the state legislature is still very much in the air, with 3,206 yes votes, to 3,186 opposed.
For the second consecutive election cycle, the North Lyon County Fire Protection District’s request for a 5-cent property tax increase has been rejected, with 3,800 no votes and 2,600 yes votes.
Lyon County voters also resoundingly rejected Lyon County Question 1 to ban brothels within the county, with 16,206 no votes, to 3,916 in favor.
The Clerk’s office said the outstanding 552 early voting ballots would not be counted until sometime Wednesday.

After a delay because of long lines that kept polls open long past the normal 7 p.m. closing time, the results from Lyon County early voting and absentee ballots are in.
In the race for the Fernley City Council Ward 1 seat, Ray Lacy collected 640 votes, and leads Shari Whalen, who received 515, by 125 votes.
In the race for Lyon County Sheriff, Frank Hunewill has the early lead over incumbent sheriff Al McNeil, 8,478 to 7,793.
Meanwhile, Matt Johnson, with 3,002 and Terrin Hicks, with 2,440, lead the race for two seats on the North Lyon County Fire Protection District Board of Directors. Chris Murphy is third with 1,972 votes and Sue Seidl is fourth with 1,908.

No votes have a significant lead in the North Lyon County Fire Protection District’s request for a 5-cent property tax increase, with 3,797 no votes and 2,599 yes votes.

Polls in Fernley finally closed about 8:30 p.m., but county officials were still waiting for polls to close in Dayton, after long lines of voters forced the polls to remain open past 7 p.m. The Lyon County Clerk-Treasurer’s office reported that sheriff’s deputies were in place to make sure additional voters did not get in line after 7 p.m.

The Nevada Secretary of State’s office has reported that no election results will be released until all polls in the state are closed.
As of 7 p.m., lines were still reported at polling locations across the state.
Update results will be posted as they are released, both from the Lyon County Clerk’s office and the Nevada Secretary of State.

The City of fernley may have some make-up homework to do. Underlying much resentment of the City itself is the simple price of water. In order to move forward, the left over item needs to be addressed and solved.
